Ashiatsu
Relaxation & Improved Flexibility
When people describe massage, they usually are describing the Swedish Massage technique. Swedish Massage involves soft, long, kneading strokes, in the direction of blood returning to the heart. The Massage Therapist may also use circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, percussion-like tapping, and stretching as part of your treatment. The goals and benefits of Swedish Massage are many including the whole body, increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, and improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Decreased Deep Muscle Tension
Deep Tissue Massage can be similar to Swedish Massage in terms of techniques but focuses on the deeper soft tissues of the body. Adhesions, scar tissue, "knots, and muscle tension from injury can all be addressed with this type of massage.
Recovery & Injury Treatment
Sports Massage focuses on injury prevention, recovery, and pathology healing for athletes. Limitations in Range of Motion and pain can affect an athlete's performance and put them at higher risk for further injury - Sports Massage addresses these issues. Techniques vary based on the goals for the Sports Massage, but common techniques utilized are:
• Effleurage - Long strokes in the direction of the heart to improve lymph and venous flow.
• Friction - Short strokes in a linear direction to muscle/tendinous tissue to break up scar tissue and adhesions.
• Petrissage - Kneading motions to relax muscles and improve circulation..
A consultation with the therapist would include an Intake interview along with a Postural Assessment and Range of Motion Testing to see what areas are being impacted because of what sport. After the patient and therapist decide on a treatment plan the therapist would begin the massage by applying Cold or Hot Stones or even a combination of both to relieve tension and pain and stimulate
A circulation of blood through the muscles to allow for quicker healing time and relaxation of the muscle fibers. Cold Stones alone may be used for areas of muscle inflammation, and swelling as well. Additionally, I would use one of two of our "icy hot" type ointments to help relieve pain and tension. One is by the brand doTerra called, "Deep Blue." It is made with Certified Pure Grade Essential Oils (CPTG), and the second is an organic pain-relieving CBD cream used with a combination of Menthol and Camphor. I do not charge for the use of these products during the massage. I would also (depending on the injury or need of the client) additionally implement the use of warm towels. Some of the strokes/modalities that we would use in this type of massage are, but not limited to the following:
• Mobilization
• Manual Manipulation
• Manual Traction
• Trigger Point Technique
• Proprioceptor Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
• Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Comfort & Relaxation
Prenatal Massage is an excellent way to increase relaxation and promote overall wellness for "moms-to-be." Positioning the body in a way that is comfortable while providing gentle massage techniques is effective in reducing pain and muscle tension, encouraging improved blood and lymph circulation, decreasing stress and anxiety, and improving sleep.

However, a certified therapist will have full knowledge of all contraindications for ashiatsu and how to best address their client needs.
